F
ounded in 2006 by Lawrence B. Marsh, a native of Eastern Kentucky and a 45 year resident of Maryland, The Marsh Foundation was created to “foster talent and innovation in Eastern Kentucky”. The Marsh Foundation is a 501©(3) non-profit corporation designed to encourage and assist the creative talent and ingenuity of those living in or having been reared in the Appalachian counties of Eastern Kentucky.

The Marsh Foundation accomplishes its goal in two primary ways – by sponsoring an annual piano scholarship competition for youth ages 13-18 living in Eastern Kentucky (The Dorothy G. Marsh Piano Competition) and by identifying and offering assistance and guidance to men and women in Eastern Kentucky with inventive minds and innovative, patentable ideas.

This is most particularly possible because founder Lawrence B. Marsh, an Electronic Engineering graduate of Georgia Tech and a former employee of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, established his own electronic research and development firm, Marsh-McBirney, Inc., and is the holder of several patents. Mr. Marsh recently sold his company and is now devoting most of his time, experience and knowledge to advancing the future economic and artistic development of his home area of Eastern Kentucky.
